According to reports, a former Lakewood Church volunteer who was accused of molesting an 8-year-old autistic boy during a children’s ministry, has filed a multimillion-dollar negligence lawsuit against the nation’s largest mega church.
Alvaro Daniel Guzman, now 26, was later cleared by a grand jury.
Guzman was charged in 2011 with one count of indecency with a child.
A church volunteer accused him of fondling an autistic boy in February 2010, according to court records.
Guzman was arrested last May and released on a $10,000 bail.
In July, a Harris County grand jury declined to indict Guzman.
Guzman’s civil suit claims that the wrongful accusation and resulting arrest damaged his reputation and caused him not to find other opportunities.
A spokesman for the church said that Lakewood Church had no comment.
Lakewood Church is an independent mega-church pastored by Joel Osteen and meets in the former Compaq Center.
