Authorities have arrested three men in connection with a 2004 slaying.
Back in 2004, Santiago Garcia was shot to death outside a home in Baytown.
After authorities reopened the cold case, they found that one suspect was involved with an investigation led by the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; he was wanted for weapons violations. Arturo Chavez Jr. was that suspect and after further investigation, police found that Daniel Torres Jr. was also connected with the 2004 slaying of Garcia.
According to authorities, Torres later confessed to taking part in Garcia’s killing.
Torres, Chavez, and a third man, Juan Carlos Magana have all now been charged with murder.
investigators say that the trio had active ties to the Zeta Drug Cartel and were running a human smuggling operation.
Garcia’s family believes the arrests are helping in bringing their family closure.
