Paul Pierce scored seven points in overtime as the Boston Celtics grabbed hold of a 30-point lead and walked away with a 97-92 victory over the Houston Rockets in Boston, on Tuesday.
Ray Allen added 21 points, while Kevin Garnett shot a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. With their fifth-straight victory, the Celtics remained agile. Kyle Lowry added 18 points, seven boards and seven assists.
Luis Scola and Samuel Dalembert each contributed a double-double with Scola’s 18 points. Despite Dalembert adding 11 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. Then Houston seemed to stall in the fourth quarter. Pierce and Garnett connected on two free throws apiece in the fourth, to close the gap in the score with 82-81 and 55.9 left on the clock.
Courtney Lee missed a runner on Houston’s next possession while Scola missed a jumper but managed to lead all scorers with 11 points in the first half to give the Rockets a 28-21 advantage the first frame.
Both Boston and Houston play on Wednesday as Boston will travel to Philadelphia and the Rockets will head to Toronto.
Because of Tuesday;s game, the Houston Rockets dropped to 0-2 on their current five-game road trip.
