The Jefferson County Courthouse was the site where a gunman shot four people and killed one earlier this week. It will reopen on Friday. Bartholomew Granger is charged with murder. His bail was set at $4 million. According to Beaumont police, Granger fired shots from a pickup truck as he drove by the Jefferson County Courthouse on Wednesday morning. Granger was on trial at the courthouse for a charge of sexually assaulting a relative.
Minnie Ray Sebolt of Deweyville, Texas was killed during the shooting. She was an innocent bystander. Witnesses report hearing a series of shots as other witnesses thought that a car was backfiring. Granger fired the shots from his vehicle and then ran over his daughter with his pickup truck. His daughter was taken to the hospital and was reportedly listed in critical condition.
Three other people were inured as a result of the shooting. One injured party includes Granger’s ex-wife. After the shooting, the courthouse was closed. It will resume normal business as it reopens Friday morning.
