Community leaders and concerned residents plan to meet today and the reason for the meeting is to discuss the recent deadly shooting at a “rave”/ “foam” party in a vacant home. Last week, Ryan Spikes, 18, was shot and killed at a “rave”-style, “Project X” party, at which hundreds of teenagers paid admission to dance in machine that created foam; additional reports indicate a many of the teens arrived at the party dressed in swimwear.
It is believed that 600 people attended the party, which was highly advertised on the social networking sites Twitter and Facebook. The shooting happened as police officers tried to break up the crowd. Spikes’ killer has not been found.
The meeting scheduled for today will be held at Cullen Missionary Baptist Church at 6:30pm. The church is located at 13233 Cullen Boulevard on Houston’s south side. Council member Wanda Adams is scheduled to be there, along with Houston Police Chief Charles McClelland.
The goal of the meeting is to talk about ways to prevent a shooting such as this in the community.
