Police have announced arrests in a burglary ring at Hobby Airport. According to reports, three men have been arrested accused of stealing rims and tires of parked cars at Hobby Airport. The suspects are identified as Temirlan Kantay Nurbol Tangatov and Yerzhigit Zhanbolatu Serikbay. The trio of suspects is charged with engaging in criminal activity for the thefts that investigators say have happened since late January of this year.
Police placed extreme and high priority on the case as travelers were coming home from trips and returning to the airport parking lot, only to find that the rims and/or tires from their cars were missing.Surveillance video captures the images of several men casing a car. The parts the three men were stealing were on mostly very high-end vehicles. The estimated costs of the rims and tires range anywhere from $6,000 to $7,000. The trio was also reportedly selling the rims and tires on Craigslist and giving them to friends. The three men were reportedly removing rims and tires from Lexus, BMWs and a Cadillac vehicles. Other foreign and American made cars were targeted as well.
After the first case was reported of the three taking parts from cars, authorities set up a surveillance operation at Hobby’s parking garage. On March 7th, police witnessed the men planning and executing a rim and tire theft from and car and then police made their move to apprehend the suspects. Authorities say that each of the suspects admitted to being involved in the thefts. When they were taken into custody, they were in a Toyota Camry that had stolen rims on it.
