Child Protective Services confirmed that two small children who were left alone in a minivan over the weekend were temporarily removed from the home of their parents Tuesday evening and placed into emergency foster care. Reports indicate that the five-month-old boy and his 17-month-old sister who were left in their dad’s vehicle Saturday, were the subject of concern when it was discovered they were alone in the van sitting in car seats. The children’s father was inside a business called Tactical Firearms looking at guns.
Jeremy Alcede owner of Tactical Firearms in Katy, called police Saturday and supplied media outlets and authorities with surveillance video that showed the two children in the hot van. According to the time on Alcede’s security system, the kids were alone for 52 minutes.
Harris County Precinct Deputies investigated and requested additional information about the case. The father had not been arrested. Additional reports indicate that the district attorney’s office said it did contact CPS. Upon a visit from CPS to the children’s home Monday evening, a judge signed an order for the two children to be removed from their home and placed into foster care temporarily.
