Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images(PITTSBURGH) — If Sunday’s game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins gave hockey fans any indication how their first round playoff series will go, it’s going to be one to remember.

After the second period, the game was tied at two, but in the third period the Flyers turned up the heat and scored four goals on their way to a 6-4 victory over the arch rivals. But after Jakub Voracek’s empty net goal in the third period, Penguins coach Dan Bylsma sent out his checking line to send a message to the Flyers. Penguins forward Joe Vitale leveled the Flyer’s Danny Briere, which caused a stir over on the Flyers bench.

Flyers’ head coach Peter Laviolette proceeded to scream at Bylsma, and then all 10 players on the ice started to fight each other, with the two benches also yelling back and forth at each other. The fight lasted over five minutes as referees struggled to regain control of the game.

“Those guys hadn’t been out there in 12 minutes,” Laviolette said after the game. “It’s a gutless move by there coach. It’s gutless.”

The Flyers trail the Penguins by just one point now in the standings with three games to play in the regular season.
