A man was sentenced for the beating death of his girlfriend in a Houston courtroom Tuesday. According to court documents, Gabriel Barrionuevo killed 18-year-old Jessica Thrash last September. Barrionuevo who was the boyfriend of Thrash at the time of her death, reportedly killed Thrash with his hand, a tire and a wheel.
Thrash’s body was found at the bottom of a stairwell in the apartment complex where the two lived. Authorities said that Thrash suffered injuries to her head and her skull was crushed. Additional reports indicate that Barrionuevo said that initially his girlfriend fell down the flight of stairs; it was an explanation that police did not find plausible.
On Tuesday, Barrionuevo was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Half of that sentence will have to be served before he’s eligible for parole.
