(BRISTOL, Conn.) — The Los Angeles Sparks selected forward Nnemkadi Ogwumike out of Stanford with the overall number-one pick in Monday’s WNBA Draft.
During her four years in Northern California, she helped lead Stanford to four appearances in the NCAA Women’s Final Four. She averaged 22.5 points and 10.2 rebounds as a senior this past season.
“I think I realized that as the competition and the challenges in basketball, in college, got harder, I needed to do more,” Ogwumike explained to ESPN.
The Sparks won the draft lottery after finishing with the fourth-worst record in the league, at 15-19.
