Doug Pensinger/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — After 14 seasons in an Indianapolis Colts uniform, Peyton Manning will kick off the season in 2012 in primetime with his new team, the Denver Broncos, against the Pittsburgh Steelers on the opening Sunday of the NFL season.

Manning hopes to take a team that reached the second round of the NFL playoffs last year even further; to the Super Bowl. They haven’t been in one since John Elway was quarterback.

“We’re excited about that. Anytime you have a guy behind the center named Peyton Manning, you’re going to get a lot of attention,” Elway said of his team who will host the Steelers.

Denver eliminated the Steelers last year in the first round after former Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow connected on an 80-yard touchdown pass with Demaryius Thomas in overtime.

“The opening game in Denver obviously will be an interesting way to start the season,” Steelers president Art Rooney said. “There will be a lot of attention paid to Peyton Manning’s first game with the Denver Broncos, so it’ll be exciting to start out that way.”
