Police in Pearland arrest two teenagers accused of deliberately defacing the Pearland high school football field.
Investigators say this was not an end of the school year prank. The teens apparently wanted to lash out for the way they had been disciplined at school.
Police say Anthony Lowe and Jorge Flores both 18 years old decided to tear up the football field at Pearland high school. They are accused of marching out to the 50-yard line and ripping up the artificial turf.
Pearland police Detective Jeff Jernigan says “the field is a standard football field and at the center is the emblem that said Pearland on it. And the section that was cut out, they cut out a big section of the word Pearland and they cut out a star and some other areas right there in the middle near the 50-yard line. It was pretty extensive damage.”
The damage is estimated at 50-thousand dollars. Det. Jernigan says the teenagers apparently wanted to retaliate against the school staff and coaches for the way they had been previously disciplined. Both are now charged with criminal mischief, a third degree felony and could face some jail time if convicted.
