A surveillance video may have saved the life of a four-month-old baby who was allegedly abused by a woman hired to care for her. According to investigators, the video shows that nanny suffocating and throwing the baby several times. Tirza Magana, 48, has been arrested and has a bond of $10,000. She is charged with endangering a child. Magana was reportedly a nanny to parents in Midtown.

According to court documents the surveillance video shows Magana placing her hands over their child’s nose and mouth while applying force as the child struggles to breathe.

Another video reportedly shows Magana holding the infant up by her head as the child’s body is dangling and making jerking movements. According to authorities, the couple who hired Magana placed surveillance cameras in their home back in May after noticing their infant daughter was seemingly lethargic and acting out-of-character.

Court records indicate that Magana admitted that she smothered the baby several times a day for a month realizing that her actions could have killed the infant.
