First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama’s message to the Democratic National Convention Tuesday was a simple yet poignant one: “President Barack Obama is just like you.”
Mrs. Obama spoke to the DNC and shared with convention goers that she and her husband, President of the United States Barack Obama are a couple that is the American couple.
In her speech, she spoke of the hardships she and President Obama endured as newlyweds, attempting to obtain financial prosperity with mountains of debt.
She also spoke of the fact that she and her husband are products of the “American Dream”: “Barack knows the American Dream because he’s lived it,” the first lady told the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday in an address intended to reassure voters that her husband is the right choice for President of the United States.
Although Mrs. Obama never mentioned the president’s Republican challenger, who grew up in a world of privilege and wealth, she did speak of the fact that the United States is a country that thrives upon struggle turned into triumph.
“Today, after so many struggles and triumphs and moments that have tested my husband in ways I never could have imagined, I have seen firsthand that being president doesn’t change who you are – it reveals who you are,” she said.
