Inside a ranch style house near the Walker County-Grimes County line, an unimaginable horror too place.
At 9:00 p.m. Thursday, Walker County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to a double shooting. Detective Gregory Williams explained the tragedy that has ripped a family apart. “The 10-year-old gained access to a handgun, walked into the 15-year-old’s room and discharged the weapon multiple times in the direction of his sister,” Williams said.
The sister was hit several times. But the violence was not over, “The 10 year old then discharged the weapon into himself fatally. One parent was home at the time of the shooting, once she heard the shot, she responded and upon seeing what happened called 911.”
Lifeflight rushed both children to the hospital. The 10-year-old was pronounced dead. But the 15-year-old, with multiple gunshot wounds, was still alive. She has undergone surgery and remains in critical but stable condition.
As for possible charges against the parents. “The weapons were in a safe and the child somehow had gained access to the safe.” says Det. Williams.
