New Harris County DNA Lab Completed At Medical Center [LISTEN]

Science Serving Justice”, that’s the theme of Harris County’s brand new forensic genetics lab, located inside the Texas Medical Center.

Officials celebrated completion of the new lab with a ribbon cutting ceremony this morning. Among those in attendance were CEO of the Texas Medical Center Richard Wainerdi, Executive Director Luis Sanchez, and Forensic Genetics Director Roger Kahn.

Outgoing District Attorney Pat Lykos put special emphasis on the need for efficient testing of evidence related to property crimes.

According to officials, property crimes are by far the most common endured by Harris County residents.

The new lab is 16 thousand square feet and will employ 40 forensic scientists.
