Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a suspect by an off-duty deputy constable at her apartment on the city’s south side. News 92 FM’s Martha Martinez reports:
Homicide officers say the incident occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. Thursday in the 11000 block of Oakmoor Parkway, near Airport Blvd. and Kirby Drive.
The suspect, identified as Corey Hayes had gotten into an argument with his mother and grandmother. The two women ran to the deputy’s nearby unit at the Oakmoor Apartments and forced their way in as she was walking in her door. Moments later, Hayes kicked in the front door. The deputy identified herself as an officer and ordered Hayes to stop. Instead, Hayes charged his mother and the deputy who, fearing for her safety and that of the women, fired her duty weapon at the 22-year-old. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The case is being investigated by HPD homicide, the Harris County district attorney’s office and the precinct 7 constable’s internal affairs unit.
