A Houston man who works as a nurse was accused of causing serious bodily injury by shaking an infant.
Michael Iglesia and the three-month-old baby’s mother are nurses who work alternate shifts and care for the baby, Channel 13 reports. Police say Iglesia told them on September 15, the baby fell off an ottoman and onto a carpeted floor at their home.
Five days later, the mother took the baby to a clinic after she saw the baby making jerking or twitching movements, and seemed drowsy. The baby was transported to a hospital where doctors discovered the baby sustained a skull fracture, hematoma, retinal hemorrhages and brain strokes. They claim the injuries are consistent with severe shaking or severe shaking with blunt force trauma.
The baby’s mother told police that she went to work the evening of September 19th, and left the baby with Iglesia. He is charged with injury to a child.
