One of the new bills filed before the Texas Legislature convenes in January would mandate drug testing for “high risk” welfare recipients. News 92 FM’s Kevin Charles has more.
The proposed legislation would also prevent Texans from using public money to buy alcohol, tobacco and lottery tickets. Governor Rick Perry says he supports the idea but thinks it may not go far enough.
Similar policies have been enacted in a few other states, including Florida but have already been blocked by the courts.
