Federal officials are examining claims that a popular energy drink could be a factor in more than a dozen deaths. ABC’s Jim Avila has more on the investigation into ’5-Hour Energy’:
A two-ounce bottle is equal to two cups of coffee. It’s the second time this month the feds have confirmed an investigation into claims energy drinks are causing fatal reactions – Monster Energy connected to five deaths in October.
Having one of those days? Tired Groggy? 5-Hour Energy led the way in this new and growing segment of energy drinks: a stiff shot of caffeine and vitamins to jolt you awake. But now the federal government and the New York Attorney General’s office are investigating claims that it can do more than that: the FDA has received reports of 13 deaths and 33 hospitalizations over the past four years, claiming 5-Hour energy was involved.
