We here in America refer to it as soccer. To us, football is the game in which 22 guys line up on the field with pads and helmets and try and crush each other over 60 minutes on a Sunday afternoon. To the rest of the world, football is much different game. Americans don’t like to think of soccer as football, but let’s face it, it’s really the truest definition of the game in which you can really only use your feet, right? But for reasons unknown to many Americans who don’t follow soccer, it’s also referred to by many in the world as “The Beautiful Game” because of the skill and sometimes amazing feats (no pun intended) which are accomplished by these men and women using nothing but their, well, feet. It can truly be a beautiful sight.
On Wednesday, England and Sweden squared off in an international friendly which eventually left both sides in awe. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a Swedish striker, tried an extremely unlikely overhead kick and watched from his back as the ball arced into the goal from an unthinkable distance. When some of the greatest footballers refer to his goal as one of the best they’ve ever seen, you know it’s something special.
Check this out and see what you think. Is this the greatest goal ever scored in the history of football…er, soccer? It definitely ranks up there for me.
