Mike Coats, the director of Johnson Spaceflight Center, announced his plans to retire. Jim Rostohar is the space center’s public affairs director.
Ellen Ochoa, the deputy director, a veteran astronaut and the first hispanic in space, will take his place. She was selected as an astronaut in 1990 and flew on STS-56 in 1993, STS-66 in 1994, STS-96 in 1999, and STS-110 in 2002.
