It’s time for your holiday weekend preview! Here’s NEWS 92 FM’s Martha Martinez:
After the parades and dinner and all the football your heart can handle, head to the Uptown Holiday Lighting on Post Oak Boulevard near the Galleria. More than a half million twinkling lights, a parade, stage show and another special appearance by Santa, all topped off with a flurry of fireworks. Music and concessions start at four and events kick into full gear at seven.
Downtown, the Alley Theatre continues its run of the Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. and matinees at 2:30 p.m. For something with a slightly edgier take on the season, it’s the Alley’s presentation of The Santaland Diaries. David Sedaris retells his hilarious experiences as Crumpet the Elf, working Macy’s Santaland. Saturday through December 30th, with evening performances Tuesday through Saturday, and weekend matinees at 2:30 p.m.
Friday through Sunday at Jones Hall, the Houston Symphony presents “Bond and Beyond: Fifty Years of Music,” featuring a soundtrack from James Bond, Dick Tracy and Inspector Clousseau. 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Starting Friday, the Houston Zoo is even more dazzling as hundreds of thousands of lights twinkle in trees, animal-themed displays and sculptures, with joyful music and more. Zoo Lights, 6-10 p.m. every evening through January 5.
And if you’re in the Montgomery area, try to help homeless animals being tended to at Wags 2 Whiskers Veterinary Hospital on Walden road. They’re collecting food, litter, toys, collars, paper towels, anything you can think of to help the helpless.
