A former president remains in a Houston hospital.
NEWS 92 FM’s Pattie Shieh brings us an update on George Herbert Walker Bush:
It was a cough that started earlier this month and just wouldn’t go away. It got worse during Thanksgiving and President George H.W. Bush was admitted into Methodist Hospital here in Houston for his second extended stay this month.
The 88-year-old has remained at Methodist all week. Doctors had worried that the former president’s condition could worsen. Spokesperson Jim McGrath says the bronchitis is not life threatening.
“The first thing you think about is, is it fatal?,” McGrath said. “Is mortality raising its ugly head? And at age 88, when your talking about bronchitis, the last thing you want to have happen is it get into the lungs and it becomes pneumonia.”
The 41st president and former first lady Barbara Bush call Houston home during the winter.
Recently they were seen at a Houston Texans game. Parkinson’s disease has forced the former president to use a wheelchair or motorized scooter to get around.
Their son, former President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush, arrived from Dallas sunday and stopped in at Methodist for a visit.
Doctors expect to discharge 41 over the weekend.
