It’s going to be a glorious weekend and NEWS 92 FM’s Martha Martinez has plenty of suggestions to help get you in a holiday mood:

The Alley Theatre continues its run of dual seasonal treats.  “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, with evening and matinee presentations through December 24th. “The Santaland Diaries” from David Sedaris will run through December 30th.

The Galveston Historical Foundation presents the 39th Annual Dickens on the Strand Festival, Saturday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m..  It’s a holiday festival that will take you back to Victorian London.  And this year, you can celebrate Charles Dickens’ 200th birthday with a world record card signing.

Carols by Candlelight, the Houston Heights holiday home tour Friday evening from 6- 9:30 p.m., and Saturday from 3-9 p.m.

Saturdays, December 1st, 8th and 15th, from 5-8 p.m., 30-minute pontoon boat rides along Buffalo Bayou with brightly colored lights, decorations, song and cheer.  Catch a ride on Sabine St., between Memorial and Allen Parkway.  Go to for details.

Zoo Lights continues to dazzle and delight at the Houston Zoo, starting at 6 p.m.

And Houston BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions is partnering with Natural Pawz and Santa Claus at the Heights first Saturday event. Bring your little buddy to Natural Pawz on West 19th St., between noon and 4 p.m.  A $5 donation will get a picture of your pet with the jolly old elf and  help support BARC’s animals.  What’s that you say?  You don’t have a little buddy?  You can find one her, because BARC will also have a selection of puppies and kittens and cats and dogs available for adoption at the event.
