An illegally-immigrated toddler will be reunited with her mom after smugglers brought her to Houston. News 92’s FM’s Suzanne Badger has the story.
Federal authorities say the 23-month-old is on her way now to be reunited with her mom in Rio Grande City. The two were separated while crossing the border illegally. The mother was taken into custody but the smugglers got away with the child and brought her to Houston. They then demanded money from the mother for her return. Contact was made with an individual in Houston claiming to be the child’s babysitter. After a series of calls, the child was delivered to homeland security agents in Houston.
Houston CPS’ spokesperson Estella Olleguin says the child was brought to them.
Homeland security authorities say the smuggling arrangements were made to have the child transported to New York for a fee of $9,000.
