Sports Watch: Redskins Edge Giants, TAMU’s Johnny Football Honored [Listen]

The Giants are down to a one-game lead in the NFC East after falling to the Redskins last night, 17-16. Robert Griffin III made the plays he needed to late in the game to lead the Skins to victory.

Here is Griffin on winning three straight to get to 6-6:

Giants (7-5), Redskins and Cowboys (6-6) in the NFC East.

Texans Headed to Monday Night Football

The Texans will be on that Monday night stage this Monday against the Patriots.  They will meet their match up with Tom Brady without cornerback Brice McCain. He had screws put in a broken foot and will be out at least until the postseason.

One of the problems in the win against Tennessee coach Gary Kubiak didn’t like was penalties, especially on offense:

Johnny Football: SEC Offensive Player of the Year

Texas A&M faired pretty good in their first year in the SEC. Freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel will be a finalist for the Heisman trophy candidate. Yesterday he got the award for SEC Offensive Player of the Year. He totaled 4,600 yards from scrimmage.

Also, head coach Kevin Sumlin won Coach of the Year honors. Not bad for year one in the SEC.

Astros Broadcaster Going to the Cubs

The Astros will lose longtime television broadcaster Jim Deshaies on the their broadcast. Deshaies is taking his talents to Chicago to do Cubs games. He replaces Bob Brenly.

The former Astros pitcher was in the TV booth with Bill Brown since 1997.

He will be missed.
