The recent suicide attempt of a North Shore high student and the onset of the holidays serve as a reminder that depression can turn tragic among our young people.
NEWS 92 FM’s Lana Hughes tells us about some of the signs that a child or teen may be in trouble:
Dr. Dawnelle Schatte is an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She says first and foremost, parents and teachers should watch for a change in behavior.
Another red flag: giving away possessions.
Dr. Schatte suggests keeping the door open for dialogue and recommends as a resource the website for the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
