Adam Lanza, not Ryan, is identified as the shooter.
This seems to clear up confusion about the identify of the shooter. A law enforcement official mistakenly identified the suspect as Ryan Lanza, Adam’s brother.
Ryan Lanza has reportedly been cooperating with police. Authorities now believe his brother acted alone.
UPDATE: 3:16 p.m. CST
Here is a breakdown of the known fatalities in this case: 20 children killed – 18 died at school, and two died at the hospital; six adults killed at the school; the shooter killed himself at school.
There is another adult shooting victim at another crime scene believed to be connected to this, but no confirmed reports as of now.

Reports say Lanza’s mother, a kindergarten teacher, has been confirmed dead as a result of the shooting.
UPDATE 2:07 p.m. CST:
Reports say the mother of Ryan Lanza was a teacher at the school where he open fired on children and members of the staff.
Law enforcement officials have Lanza’s brother in custody. It has not been confirmed whether or not he was involved in the shooting.
UPDATE 1:31 p.m. CST:
Authorities say the gunman in this shooting has been identified as Ryan Lanza. The 20-year-old was from Connecticut, but lived in New Jersey. Reports also add that a dead body was found at his home.
At least three victims are in the hospital in serious condition.
Police continue to investigate if there was a second shooter involved.

As many as 27 people, including a reported 20 children, were killed Friday after two gunmen reportedly fired hundreds of shots at a Connecticut school.
One gunman is dead after a Connecticut school district went on lockdown following reports of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. A second gunman is still at large, according to reports.
The shooting is believed to be the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history.
An eyewitness told World News Tonight anchor Diane Sawyer hundreds of shots were reportedly fired, and dozens of parents are not aware of the whereabouts of their children.
“Due to reports of a shooting as yet unconfirmed, the district is taking preventive measures by putting all schools in lockdown until we ensure the safety of all students and staff,” Newton Public School District secretary of superintendent Kathy June said in a statement.
State police are sending units to Newtown following reports of a shooting at an elementary school.
All public and private schools in the town are on lockdown.
A message on the school district website says that all afternoon kindergarten is cancelled today and there will be no mid-day bus run.
