The latest release of Air Jordan shoes is proving a popular item.
People are not only waiting in line for hours to buy them, but thieves are turning to violence to take them off your hands when you do purchase them.
NEWS 92 FM’s Steve Ottesen has this story on a botched robbery involving the shoes:
The shoes are known as Air Jordan Bred 11 and have a retro look dating back to 2001.
Harris County deputies say armed gunmen tried to rob two men who purchased Bred 11 from the Willowbrook Mall Friday morning.
The men had just pulled into their home on Plumwood in northwest harris county when a green car pulled in front of them.
An armed man jumped out and demanded the Air Jordans, but rather than give them up, deputies say the driver ran off with the gunman firing at him.
He missed, but as the passenger tried to drive away, a second gunman opened fire, wounding him as he crashed into a gas meter at a nearby house, rupturing the line.
The gunmen sped off, but deputies told the Houston Chronicle they are not sure if they took any shoes.
The wounded man was taken to the hospital with what deputies say was a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
The Air Jordan Bred Elevens retail for anywhere from $185 to $385.
