Police say a man stole thousands of dollars worth of baby formula from a southeast Houston store as part of an organized theft ring.
Court documents tell us Ray Hawkins entered the Walmart on Rowlett Rd., on December 2nd, placed 48 cans of infant formula and a package of diapers in a shopping cart and walked out of the store with them.
Then, investigators say on December 9th, Hawkins returned to the same Walmart with another man named Tommy Gibbs, put 39 cans of baby formula into a shopping cart and walked out. This time, two Walmart officials stopped the men.
They were released at that point and not charged.
Hawkins is suspected in an organized effort involving baby formula. Police say the ring will target an area Walmart two or three times, then moves on to another store.
