A Houston lawyer who’s accused of bilking his employer out of millions is back in Houston. NEWS 92 FM’s Suzanne Badger has the story.
In a story you heard here first a few weeks ago on NEWS 92 FM, Anthony Chiofalo turned himself in to Rhode Island police on December 20th, just a few days after watching what transpired during the Newtown, Conn., shootings. Attorney Paul Doyle said Chiofalo’s conscience got to him.
Chiofalo is accused of stealing more than $9 million from his employer, Tadano America, in 2010. Doyle says Chiofalo was brought back to Houston from Rhode Island last night, and he’s ready to face the embezzlement charges.
According to his attorney, Chiofalo was ready to co-operate until his wife was charged too, and that’s when he ran. Doyle says those charges against Chiafalo’s wife won’t stand up in court.
Chiofalo is accused of setting up a fraudulent law firm, charging his employer for services, and pocketing the money.
His attorney says they expect to be on the docket next week.
