Add “Fracking” to the latest cause célèbre for some celebrities.
“Frack” is not the companion to “frick.”
“Fracking” is the slang term for a controversial form of natural gas drilling involving hydraulic fracturing of rock formations.
Susan Sarandon, Sean Lennon, and his mom, Yoko Ono, have formed a group called Artists Against Fracking, meeting with townspeople in Pennsylvania who say they’ve been negatively-impacted by chemicals used in the process.
“Meeting those people was really an eye opener for me, I mean, because these are the type of people that apparently don’t exist,” gushed Lennon.
Lennon doesn’t believe these people don’t exist–with the exception of Manti Te-O’s girlfriend–but that the townspeople have been ignored by drilling companies.
And, perhaps, that they need to buy his new album….
Tom Shepstone of the Energy Indepth Campaign says Lennon is just drilling for publicity.
“It’s definitely a celebrity tour. It’s a stunt,” groused Shepstone.
