Montrose’s 24-hour Theo’s Restaurant is popular for its Greek-Mediterranean flair, boasting a colorful and versatile menu of offerings sure to please the most difficult palate. You know who I am talking about.
When I was released from work two hours early yesterday, I jumped at the chance to enjoy a beautiful Houston afternoon with one of my pickiest friends at this little slice of paradise.
And a slice of paradise we truly found in Theo’s tasty Aphrodite.
In Greek mythology, Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure and passion, so it’s not surprising to find this pizza fosters a response nothing short of amorous.
Starting with generous helpings of feta cheese and a savory tomato sauce, Aphrodite is topped with tasty helpings of seasoned grilled chicken and fresh tomato.
Still haven’t decided whether its the succulent chicken adorn in Theo’s signature spices or the ripe tomato which makes this pizza a contender for Houston’s best, but this powerful duo certainly pulls a punch on your taste buds.
The crust of this Greek-inspired pie is nothing short of amazing–not too heavy, not too crispy, but just right. It’s bread-laden while being very light. Reminiscent of a Chicago-style deep dish, but without the feeling you might need a quick nap under the table once devoured.
That picky eater I took is still talking about mighty Aphrodite, which is fitting, given the gods feared she would spark war between her many lovers.
But, there is plenty where that came from to go around.
Head to Theo’s today and pair this pizza at 14″ round with a Greek salad and a heaping portion of Theo’s lightly marinated Calamari, and you have a meal fit to share among friends.
