A woman was granted a reprieve just hours before she was set to be executed tonight in Huntsville. A state district judge issued a reprieve for Kimberly McCarthy less than five hours before she was to be executed for the 1997 murder of a neighbor. McCarthy’s execution date is now set for April 3. Dallas county district attorney Craig Watkins says defense attorneys claim the jury was improperly selected on the basis of race.

McCarthy was sentenced to death for the robbery, beating and fatal stabbing of retired college professor Dorothy Booth.
