A family’s home is in ruins after an apparent drunk driver comes crashing in. NEWS 92 FM’s Pattie Shieh tells us all this happened as a family of four was sleeping in the small home.
“She’s the head of this family, without her.. I don’t know…”
Irma Lira just shakes her head while looking at the wreckage of her home of 20 years. A 22-year-old in a pickup truck slammed into the small home at 2 in the morning.
“I can’t believe my mom is with us,” Lira said. “It’s a miracle. Her bed is just in the middle of the whole impact.”
The Ford F-150 barrelled right into the front bedroom where 62-year-old Dora Estrada was sleeping. Waking up on the floor, she was trapped, it was dark. Her 13-year-old grandson was trying desperately to get to her.
“He kept screaming her name and she was answering, but couldn’t find a way to get her out,” Lira said. “Finally found an area where the debris wasn’t too high and he actually pulled her out.”
Amazingly, Estrada suffered minor cuts. The family doesn’t have insurance and has no idea how they will begin to repair their broken home.
The driver of the truck died at the scene. Houston police believe he was intoxicated.
