The battle over a 16-year-old girl suing her parents over abortion is ramping up and her attorney is speaking out. NEWS 92 FM’s Alicia Alaniz has the story.
The Texas Center for Defense of Life has filed a lawsuit on behalf of the girl who is currently two months pregnant, and who claims her parents are forcing her to abort her unborn baby.
The teen, identified only as R.E.K., since she is a minor, contacted the Austin-based pro-life group for help.
“The response from the parents when she let them know she was pregnant was, ‘You’re getting an abortion, we’re making the decision, you have no right to make a decision and that is the end of it,'” TCDL chief council Stephen Casey said.
But Casey says his 16-year-old client has rights.
“That does not support the Constitution, it does not support with the case law with Roe v. Wade, and ultimately, it is the wrong decision all around, because you shouldn’t make a second error in aborting this child, harming the girl emotionally for the rest of her life and killing the child because she made an error in judgment and became pregnant,” Casey said.
Casey tells NEWS 92 FM, he is asking the court to declare that the pregnant teen has the right to make her own decision about the baby. He is also asking for a temporary restraining order from her parents.
