A recording of police scanner traffic making the rounds on the Internet leads to questions on how the fire in a California cabin got started during a stand-off with fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner. Here’s some of that audio, as ABC News’ Alex Stone reports.
Despite some claims that the sheriff’s department intentionally set fire to the cabin Dorner was believed to be in, Sheriff John McMahon says it was not intentional. It appears it was ignited by tear gas canisters that were shot inside.
“Pyrotechnic does generate a lot of heat,” McMahon said. “We introduced those canisters into the residence and a fire erupted. On scanner traffic deputies could be heard talking about burners. The sheriff says that’s what they call that type of tear gas canister.”
