Two firefighters have died because of injuries sustained while fighting a fire near downtown Bryan.
Investigators say they were called to the 1500 block of Groesbeck Dr., at 11:17 p.m. Friday night for a fire at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
When firefighters arrived they had heavy fire conditions and one crew entered the building. It was just a short time later that Lt. Eric Wallace called for help and stated his air was low.
The RIT Team entered the building and located Wallace. That’s when they believe there may have been a structural collapse.
Wallace died at the scene. A second firefighter has died at the hospital, where two other firefighters are in critical condition.
The Bryan Fire Department has a number of engines on scene, and the College Station Fire Department is aiding their efforts. There are also volunteer fire crews helping from Brazos County.
Firefighters lowered the flag in front of the Knights of Columbus Hall to half mast. The flags at Bryan Fire Department are also at half mast.
