Major construction is soon coming to some of the most congested parts of the Bayou City. News 92 FM’s afternoon traffic anchor Karen Christie has the update:

Motorist will have to pay close attention while navigating through one of the busiest and most traveled sections of the city. The Harris County Flood Control District will repair old bridges in the Galleria Area.

In early March, work will begin on the Westheimer and San Felipe Street bridges that cross the drainage channel. It will require traffic detours while the 50-year-old bridges are demolished and replaced to accommodate the new reinforced concrete box culverts.

The bridge reconstruction project will require traffic flow on the Westheimer Bridge to be limited to one lane in each direction for up to a month. Work on the San Felipe Bridge is expected to begin in summer 2013 and all lanes will be closed for up to two weeks.  At this time a completion date has not been set. Stay with News 92 FM for traffic updates every 10 minutes on the nines.
