Houston‘s St. Francis of Assisi parish are thrilled that the new pope chose the name St. Francis. News 92 FM’s Kevin Charles has the story:
“The pope takes on that name, not only for St. Francis, but also for the humility that St. Francis of Assisi showed,” said Father Edmund Nnandozi. He also added his parish’s namesake used his parents wealth to help the poor and reach out to the needy when he could have taken it all for himself in an inheritance. “He used all that wealth that he could have inherited, he used it to help the church or rebuild it to what it should be.”
As for the future of the church? Father Nnadozi says parishioners are looking forward to a bright future.
“Oh we are excited… I was joking with them that i would invite the pope over for breakfast or maybe lunch.”
