We finally have information on how many illegal immigrants immigration and customs enforcement released in the Houston area last month. NEWS 92 FM’s Pattie Shieh reports.
The numbers are coming from testimony before a House committee involving the release of detainees. Across the country, just over 2,000 were released but how many were here in Texas?
Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton admitted that’s a total of 771, 240 here in the Houston area.
“In total, we released 2,228 aliens over a three week period in February for solely budgetary reason,” Morton said.
Morton insists, of those set free, very few were convicts and only a handful were considered serious felons. But ICE also previously indicated the nationwide release involved only a few hundred immigrants.
