A severely disabled little girl remains in the hospital after being found home alone. NEWS 92 FM’s Pattie Shieh reports.
At just four years old, the little girl was hooked to a ventilator and feeding tube. She was discovered in the family’s southwest Houston apartment, only found when Precinct Five deputies arrived to serve an eviction notice. Estella Olguin is with Child Protective Services.
“CPS was called to the scene yesterday involving the 4-year-old girl that was home alone and we did get involved.”
The 4-year-old was taken to the hospital. But what happens next is unclear. CPS will look for a relative who has the capability to take care of a special needs child. If that is not possible, the little girl will likely go into the foster system.
“We have foster parents that are trained in caring for children with special needs and especially children that have these kinds of medical issues,” Olguin said.
The two younger children in the family are now with relatives and their mother has been charged with child endangerment.
