The grand opening for a discount grocery chain in Houston takes place Monday morning. Aldi Incorporated will open nine stores in the Houston area this week, and plans to open a total of 30 stores in Houston over the next two years.
Gregg Barr, managing editor of the Houston Business Journal, says Aldi’s main angle is that they’re a discount grocer, giving them an international appeal with a domestic price tag.
The first three Aldi stores will be located in Katy, Spring, and Pearland. Meanwhile, Sprouts Farmers Market is opening a second store in the Houston area later this month. One store is open in the Katy area, the second in the Cypress area.
