An area first grade teacher gives an unexpected reason why she couldn’t have committed the crime of which she is accused. News 92 FM’s Pattie Shieh explains.

Prejudice.

Court documents show Irene Stokes told police that’s the reason she is not guilty when it comes to the indecency with a child charge.

The 61-year-old is a first grade teacher at Northwest Preparatory Academy in Humble.

One of her students told police last month Stokes sent all of the other students out of the classroom then touched her inappropriately.

The court records reveal stokes told officers quote she doesn’t like to touch the black students because she was “prejudiced.”

Stokes failed a polygraph test but insists nothing happened.

In a statement sent to News 92 FM, Northwest Preparatory Academy says they are co-operating with the Humble police in this investigation, and have terminated the employee. The school adds they are committed to safety.
