Special honors are in order for a Houston police officer. He is named officer of the year for his dedication and outstanding service on behalf of the public. News 92 FM’s Mike Barajas has details.
HPD veteran James Tippy is honored by the Houston Citizens Police Academy as the Officer of the Year. Officer Tippy and his team of investigators reconstruct major accident scenes in which people are killed or badly injured.
“We owe it to the victim and the victim’s family to make sure that if there are criminal charges pursued that these cases can stand up to scrutiny in court and the people can be held responsible.”
Tippy is an expert in the field of reconstruction.
“We have to gather all the forensic evidence at the scene. We only get one chance to do it and typically that is on a freeway or a major street so we have to do it in a quick and safe way.”
Officer Tippy’s dedication to his work has led to the prosecution of numerous suspects in criminally negligent homicide cases as well as those involving intoxication manslaughter.
