Texas has more Black farmers than any other state, but the head of the national organization says very few of them are taking part in a history-making lawsuit.

Thomas Burrell is on a mission to reach out to black farmers and their descendants in Texas. He says a landmark lawsuit attempts to right some of the wrongs of discrimination, but only a fraction of the Texas farmers have filed claims.

Burrell runs the Black Farmers & Agriculturalist Association. He says many heirs don’t realize they can be part of the settlement.

The deadline is May 1, 2013.
