Two Houston firefighters are hurt while fighting a furious fire at a group home for the disabled in midtown Houston. The fire gutted the two-story building on Wheeler, leaving nine people looking for a place to stay.
Captain Ruy Lazano with the Houston Fire Department tells News 92 FM the captain who was injured is recovering at Memorial Hermann.
“He’s in very stable condition. He’s had visitors all day, just to make sure he’s alright. He did sustain multiple injuries.”
One other firefighter suffered minor injuries after suffering an electrical shock.
Nine people were rescued from the blaze. The Red Cross is helping them find places to stay.
The Third Ward residence is the former headquarters for the Houston Branch of the NAACP.
