An MD Anderson doctor is accused of poisoning another.
Investigators say 42-year-old Dr. Ana Maria Gonzalez-Angulo poisoned Dr. George Blumenshein in late January by putting ethylene glycol in his coffee. The two had dated earlier this year.
Blumenshein says she gave him a drink she had made and when he sipped it told her it was too sweet. She told him it was Splenda. Court documents show hours later the victim started slurring his speech and couldn’t stay balanced.
He was admitted to the emergency room where doctors found he had central nervous system depression and other complications. A test showed he’d ingested enough poison to kill a man.
Gonzalez-Angulo is charged with aggravated assault of a family member.
