Congress returns to work following the Fourth of July holiday and will tackle the emotional issue of immigration reform.
The senate passed its version, but Texas Senator John Cornyn voted against the bill because he wanted more assurances our border would be secure.
“Our effort to fix the broken immigration system must begin at the border, where we must set objective realistic goals and then meet those goals.”
Congressman Gene Green agrees the border must be secure, but he also wants to help the undocumented immigrants already in the U.S.
“Give a pathway to citizenship for those folks who haven’t broke our criminal laws, except for coming here illegally and they will pay a fine for that,” Green says. He added those who qualify to become american citizens would have to get in line behind immigrants who entered the U.S. legally.
